He is a trumpeter, orchestrator, arranger, composer,
author and teacher born in Pennsylvania, who studied trumpet at the
University of Minnesota, Grace College, Indiana, and Northwestern
University, Illinois. He has
worked as a freelance musician with ensembles such as Tim Zimmerman &
The King's Brass, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, the Clarion Brass
Quintet, the Salem Symphony Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
and his arrangements have appeared on recordings that include Classic
Hymns, The Best of Brass and Organ and Americana by Tim
Zimmerman & The King's Brass. As a composer he has written many commissioned works for
churches, educational and commercial facilities, pieces such as "Psalm 90"
and Uncommon Ceremonial Works for Trumpet, and his Top 50
Orchestral Excerpts for Trumpet is now a popular part of the trumpeting
repertoire and he has recently been working with the composer Ewan Ewazen
on the orchestration of his Sonata for Trumpet. His authorship has seen him
publishing works for the ITG Journal and The Instrumentalist and in musical
conferences he has been the presenter at the International Trumpet Guild
Conference held in London and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra
Clinic. In the world of
musical education he has been on the faculties of schools and colleges in
Kansas, Oregon, Indiana and Illinois and has been Professor of Music at the
Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota since 1993. In the 1980s he was twice listed as
one of the "Outstanding Young Men of America".
