She is a mezzo-soprano born in Stockholm, Sweden, with
her father being the Swedish diplomat Goran von Otter.Due to her father travelling with
his work she grew up in Stockholm, Bonn and London. She studied at the
Guildhall School of Music in London and also showing an interest in
studying lied interpretaton, she took further education on the subject in
London and Vienna.After
graduation she began to work with the pianist Bengt Forsberg, who she still
collaborates with, and after two years she joined the Basle Opera where she
interpreted works by Richard Strauss and Mozart and made her debut in 1983.
She achieved recognition for
her mezzo-soprano voice and over the years has become an internationally
acclaimed artist with her operatic, lieder and tribute performances that
are performed in all the world's major venues.She has released numerous classical and operatic CDs
such as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, Bach's Christmas Oratorio,
Grieg's Grieg Songs and with popular artists including For the
Stars with Elvis Costello and Benny Andersson on I Let the Music
Speak.Along the way has
picked up several Edison prizes, Grammophon awards, a Grammy nomination and
been named the 1990 "Recording Artist of the Year" with an International
Critic's Award and named 1995 "Singer of the Year" at the Cannes Classical Awards.
