Otter, Anne Sofie von (9th May 1955-Present)

She is a mezzo-soprano born in Stockholm, Sweden, with her father being the Swedish diplomat Goran von Otter.  Due to her father travelling with his work she grew up in Stockholm, Bonn and London. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London and also showing an interest in studying lied interpretaton, she took further education on the subject in London and Vienna.  After graduation she began to work with the pianist Bengt Forsberg, who she still collaborates with, and after two years she joined the Basle Opera where she interpreted works by Richard Strauss and Mozart and made her debut in 1983.  She achieved recognition for her mezzo-soprano voice and over the years has become an internationally acclaimed artist with her operatic, lieder and tribute performances that are performed in all the world's major venues.  She has released numerous classical and operatic CDs such as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Grieg's Grieg Songs and with popular artists including For the Stars with Elvis Costello and Benny Andersson on I Let the Music Speak.  Along the way has picked up several Edison prizes, Grammophon awards, a Grammy nomination and been named the 1990 "Recording Artist of the Year" with an International Critic's Award and named 1995 "Singer of the Year" at the Cannes Classical Awards.
