    Pachinger, Gerald (1967-Present)

    He is a clarinettist born in Ried, Austria, who studied at the Musikhochschule in Vienna.


    In 1986 he performed under the conductorship of Claudio Abbado when he became a founder member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.


    The following year, in 1987, he joined the Vienna Symphony Orchestra where he was given the position of Principal Clarinettist.  Performing as a soloist he made his debut with Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto at the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna in 1988. 


    As a chamber musician he has performed with ensembles and soloists that include the Auryn Quartet, Blasersolisten der Wiener Symphoniker, Ensemble Contrasts Wien, Eos Quartet, the Haydn Trio, Ursula & Heinz Holliger, Quintett Wien, the Symanovski Quartet, Wiener Kammermusiker, the Wiener Klavier Trio and the Hugo Wolf Quartet.


    He has performed with other orchestras that include the Graz Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Musicians’ Orchestra of Lower Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic and received invitations to give guest performances with Concentus Musicus and also the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a performer and many national and international music festivals.


    No stranger to the recording studio he has appeared on albums that include A Little Night Music…Mozart for Lovers, The Essential Mozart by the London and Vienna Symphony Orchestras and the compilations Classic Ambience: The Ultimate in Calming Classics, Heart Strings: Beautiful Classics for Romantic Times and  Romantic Classics: A Sensual Collection.


    He moved into the field of musical education in 1994 when he became a teacher at the Eisenstadt Konservatorium.  He remained there until 1997 when he moved on to Vienna’s Musikhochschule and after 6 years there he became a Professor in Graz at the Kunsthochschule in 2003.   He has also held many masterclasses and been on several competition juries.
