Violinist from
Seoul, Korea, who emigrated to the U.S. at nineteen years of age and
graduated from the University of Southern California and Indiana
University, where she earned a Masters while serving as an Associate Instructor
at the acclaimed school.
Orchestras
with whom she has performed include the L.A. Chamber Orchestra, the Seoul
National Symphony, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and most notably the
Toronto Symphony Orchestra, with whom she has occupied the first violin
chair since the 1980-1981 season.
She has also
fashioned herself a second career as a session musician, appearing on Susan
Aglukark’s 2006 release, Blood Red Earth, Holly Cole’s
2007 Christmas album, Baby,
It’s Cold Outside, Frank Sinatra’s 1979 boxed set, Trilogy, and the Disney compilation,
Princess Lullaby Album.
Hyung-Sun has
been active with the Music at the Cathedral Summer Recital Series in
Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the Associates of the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra, with whom she performed in concert in 2007 and 2008.
She also
teaches private violin lessons.
