Phillips, Anthony Edwin "Ant"(23rd December 1951-Present)
He is a singer and guitarist born on 23rd December
1951 in
London.His first band was The Spiders with
River Job.While at CharterhouseSchool he was a member of Anon
and then became a founding member of the group Genesis in 1967.He left the band in 1970 after
the release of Trespass due to
ill health and stage fright.He
was replaced temporarily by Mick Barnard.It is said that Mike Rutherford and
Tony Banks were so traumatized by this that there was a question whether
the band could continue.After
leaving the band he studied classical music, concentrating on classical
guitar and made recordings in collaboration with artists including Harry
Williamson, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins.He released his first solo album in
1977.He wrote songs with Andy
Latimer from Camel and performed on their album The Single Factor.He continues to work in music and does extensive soundtrack work for
TV, some of which he has worked jointly on with Mike Rutherford, such as Horse Trials.
