He was a conductor, musical director, orchestrator and
composer born in Neufchateau, Vosges, France. He studied piano at the Paris Conservatory and in 1951 went
onto the cabaret circuit and worked with artists such as Serge Gainsbourg
and Boris Vian and this also led him to working regularly during his
lifetime with the Belgian composer Jacques Brel, He conducted many orchestras and choir during his
lifetime including the children's choir Les Petits Chanteurs de
Saint-Laurent and studio ensembles that performed the soundtracks of many
movies and television programmes including Play Time and Jacques
Brel is Alive and Living in Paris, and the entry for the French entry
of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983 and 1984. As a composer his work has been much heard in television
and movies with his works appearing on at least 14 productions, which
include the series Belle and Sebastian, Le Vagabonde and Grand-Pere
Viking and the films Franz, Far West and L'Emmerdeur. His numerous recordings include Children's
Songs, Musical Feeling, French Music for Brass Quintet & Wind Band,
Mega Cinema and Maurice Andre: Les Plus Beaux Noels and Les
Bonbons and Quand On N'a Que l'Amour with Jacques Brel.
