    Renwick, Colin

    Violinist who studied with Daphne Murnane and went on to become a member of the London Symphony Orchestra.


    On 21st May 1973, he performed in a concert at the Octagon Theatre that included excerpts from Cantata No. 61 (Nun komm, der Heiland Heiland) and “Jesu meine Freude” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Kyrie” by Franz Schubert, “Liebeslieder Waltzes” by Johannes Brahms, “Little Organ Mass” by Franz Joseph Haydn, “Locus Iste” by Anton Bruckner, “Mass for Three Voices” by William Byrd, and “Sea Patterns” by John Nickson.


    The LSO were joined by soprano Angela Gheorghiu on 8th May 2007 at Barbican Hall.  On the program were Georges Bizet’s “Habanera” from Carmen, George Frideric Handel’s “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo, Pietro Mascagni’s “Intermezzo” from Cavalleria rusticana, and Giacomo Puccini’s “Un bel di vedremo” from Madama Butterfly.


    On 3rd July 2007, they offered up Henri Dutilleux’sMetaboles”, Maurice Ravel’s second suite from Daphnis et Chloe, and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1”, with Barry Douglas at the keys.


    They performed in the first fully staged U.K. production of A Flowering Tree by John Adams at Barbican Hall on 10th and 12th August 2007.


    On 19th October 2011, they were at Lincoln Center for an all-Sibelius concert that comprised “Symphony No. 2 in D major” and “Violin Concerto in D minor”, with soloist Nikolaj Znaider.


    They were back at Lincoln Center on 21st October 2011 for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Mass in D major (Missa Solemnis) with the London Symphony Chorus.


    On 15th February 2012, they returned home to the Barbican for a program that included “Concerto for Orchestra” by Bela Bartok, “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra” by Erich Korngold, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos, and “The Isle of the Dead” by Sergei Rachmaninoff.


    They teamed up with the Ladies of the London Symphony Chorus and Christian Tetzloff on 29th April 2012 for a concert that featured “Symphony No. 4” (“The Poem of Ecstasy”) by Alexander Scriabin, “Three Nocturnes” by Claude Debussy, and “Violin Concerto No. 1” by Karol Szymanowski.


    On 11th May 2012, they presented a wall-to-wall Stravinsky affair that comprised The Firebird, Mass, and “Violin Concerto in D major”, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos.


    Recordings on which Colin appears include Bach to Brubeck, Classikhan, Epiphany, Falcom Neo Classic from Studios in London City, Holst:  The Planets, Music of Hope and Zappa:  The London Symphony Orchestra, Vols. 1-2 with the LSO, Corazon Herido by Isabel Pantoja, and Fresh Aire 8 by Mannheim Steamroller.


    He can also be heard on the soundtracks of The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
