Teacher and former first horn for Universal Studios
whose film credits include Electra
Glide in Blue and Stripes. She was also a member of the Los
Angeles Horn Club, which released an album of classical music with the
rather misleading title Hollywood
Horns. (There has since
been a group with that moniker, adding to the confusion.) It was not Gale's only foray
into classical, however. As a
member of the Festival Players of California and the Robinson Ensemble, she
did a couple of stints with the South Bay Chamber Music Society. On 20th December 1970,
the Festival Players put on an eclectic program that ranged from early
Baroque composer Giovanni Palestrina to 20th century composer
Alan Boustead. A couple of
years later, she appeared with the Robinson Ensemble, led presumably by
soprano Beverly Robinson, performing works of Johannes Brahms, Richard
Donovan, and Franz Schubert. To
pay the bills, she performed as a session musician for an impressive array
of artists and groups, including Alpha Band, Benny Carter, Frankie Crocker,
Earth, Wind & Fire, The Emotions, Esquivel, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Hefti, Carmen McRae, Maxine Nightingale, Jack Nitzsche, Dory Previn, Rhythm
Heritage, Frank Sinatra, Sunset Bombers, and Deniece
Williams.
