Composer and keyboardist who took up the piano at age
six and was out on the road performing at age twelve.
He contributed his talents to Carly
Simon’s No Secrets album
and played clavinet, electric piano, organ, piano and prepared piano on
Murray Head’s 1973 release, Nigel
Lived. That same year, he
released a solo album, Dialogues For
Piano and Reeds.
Unfortunately, his career as a studio musician was cut
short when he was diagnosed with tendonitis at age eighteen. Thanks to Professor Phil Cohen of
Montreal’s Concordia University, he was able to rehabilitate himself
by modifying his keyboard technique and channeling his energy from parts of
his body other than his wrists, frequently playing cross-handed. He re-emerged in the late ‘80s
with a self-produced effort, Phoenix
Rising, on which he played piano and synthesizer, and did all of the
programming.
His adaptation of electronic instruments led to a
lucrative career as a film and television composer. A few of the films he has scored
include Critters 4, Satan’s School for Girls, and Sometimes They Come Back… Again. He is currently working on the
television program Without a Trace,
for which he won the BMI TV Music Award three years running, from 2003 to
2005.
