He is an organist, music director and teacher who
studied at the University if Pacific Conservatory of Music and Westminster
Choir College at Princeton, New Jersey.In his professional career he served as Director of Music
for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was Organist-Choirmaster in
Pittsburgh's Church of the Assumption for 19 years before relocating to
Saint Louis, Missouri, to take the position of Organist and Director or
Music at the Saint Louis Cathedral Basilica in 1992.Gaining recognition for his work he
was given the titles of Full-Time Pastoral Musician of the Year in 1996
and Outstanding Choir Director for 1998-1999, he was awarded an honorary
doctorate by Lindenwood University, Saint Louis, and also in 1999 he led
the choir and orchestra for the Mass and evening service for the visit of
Pope John Paul II to Saint Louis.Appearing on the silver screen he was the Choir Director in the 1988
movie Dominick and Eugene.As a teacher he has been on the faculty of Duquesne University and
Carlow College and he has led choral festivals in many venues in the United
States and choirs on international tours.His son is the flutist John Romeri II.
