He is a violist and teacher born
in Montreal, Canada
and raised in New York City. He studied the violin when he was ten
and moved onto the viola when he was fifteen. He entered the Juilliard School of
Music in New York when he was
eighteen to study viola and chamber music. He has played with several ensembles
including the Chester,
Mendelssohn and Penderecki string quartets and with
the Arditti Quartet, he was a winner of a Siemens prize in 1999 and given nearly 100 world
premieres. As a soloist he has
appeared with the Paris Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic
and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. He is a regular participant in
festivals such as Tanglewood, Aspen
and Salzburg. He has taught chamber music and
viola at Tanglewood, Wilfred Laurier
University and Yale.
