He is a recorder and flute
player as well as artistic director and conductor born in Germany.
His career began after he was
successful at a competition in Munich. He became a musician with the
Camerata Koln and as a soloist and director of La Stagione Frankfurt. He became a professor of the Hochchule der Kunste in Berlin
in 1980 and also holds a leading post in the Hochschule
in Frankfurt.
He has given courses on early music and is renowned for rediscovering
neglected masterpieces that include works by Scarlatti
and Beck. As a recorder
virtuoso he has recorded the entire repertoire for this instrument and he
was awarded the Telemann prize for his musical
achievements. He has guest
conducted with the North West German Philharmonic, the Israel Chamber
Orchestra and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra among others.
