Accordionist,
composer, keyboardist and saxophonist who was a member of the instrumental
rock group, The Frantics. His band-mates were bassist Jim Manolides, drummer Don Fulton, guitarist Ron Petersen,
and fellow sax man, Bob Hosko. Jim was later supplanted by Jeno Landis.
The Frantics didn’t have any huge
hits, but they did crack the top 100 with “Fog Cutter”, “Straight
Flush”, and “Werewolf”. Charlie penned or co-penned many of
their songs, including “Black Sapphire”, “Straight Flush”,
and “The Whip”, which you can hear on the compilation, The Complete Frantics
on Dolton. “Straight
Flush” also appears on Pittsburgh’s Favorite Oldies: At the Hop, Vol. 7 and Rock ‘n’ Roll Guitar
Classics. Charlie is
credited with piano on Todd Rundgren’s 1972
album, Something/Anything?.
