He is a flautist and teacher who studied at the New
England Conservatory of Music and was awarded a fellowship at Tanglewood’s
Berkshire Music Center, which led to him performing, under the baton of
Arthur Fiedler, as a soloist with the Boston Pops.
He settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1977 and
since that time his career in music as seen him active as a soloist and
ensemble member in both the classical and contemporary genres. Performing with several orchestras
and ensembles he has been heard with the Ama Deus Ensemble, Pennsylvania Ballet
Orchestra, the Philly Pops, the West Jersey Chamber Orchestra, been the
Principal Flute for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia since joining
them in 2002 and taken part in the productions of Network for New Music. In 1978 the composer Robert Shultz dedicated
his “Tsur Mehora for Flute and Piano, Op. 7” to Edward and he performed in
the premiere in Philadelphia in 1979.
In 2008 he began collaboration with the harpist Sarah
Fuller which led them to form the Philadelphia Flute and Harp Duo.
He has taken part in recordings such as Music from
France for Flute and Harp where he performed with the harpist Karin
Fuller, Beethoven: Missa Solemnis by the Ama Deus Ensemble, Vincent
Perischetti Choral Works by the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, Bernard
Rand: Now Again by network for New Music and Holiday Pops by
Peter Nero & The Philly Pops.
He has also recorded music for national broadcasts on the radio.
In the field of musical education he is a teacher on
the faculty of Swarthmore College.
