    Schutz, Karl Heinz (1975-Present)

    He is a flautist and teacher born in Innsbruck who was brought up in Landeck, Tirol and took part in European music competitions where he won first prizes in 1998 and 1999.

     

    He took his musical studies at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory and then further studies in chamber music at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Lyon which he graduated from in 2000.

     

    In 2000 he became a member of the Stuttgart Philharmonic where he held the position of Principal Flute.  The following year he took up a teaching position at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory and remained there until 2004.

     

    In 2005 he joined the Vienna Symphony Orchestra which led to a highlight of his career with them when he performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto in D Major.  He had another highlight with them in 2010 when he performed a concerto by Ibert and also when he took part in the Pacific Music Festival.

     

    In 2009 he became involved with Horizons at the Landecker Festival where he is involved in the artistic side of things.

     

    In 2011 he gained the position of Principal Flute with the Vienna State Opera and also performs in concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic.  He also performed with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and has been on the faculty of Sapporo’s Pacific Music Festival in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

     

    2013 saw him becoming a member of the Ensemble Wien Berlin nd performing with them at the Salzburg Festival.

     

    During his career he has performed as a soloist as well as an orchestral, chamber and guest musician with numerous European orchestras which include Capella Cracoviensis, Classical Players Vienna, the Odense Symphony, the Orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestra of the Opera de Lyon, the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona y Catalunya and the Vienna Concert-Verein.  He has also been a performer at many international music festivals.

     

    He has appeared on many broadcasts and recordings including his own CD Flute Perspectives.

     

    In recent years he has been a Flute Professor at the Vienna Conservatory and holds many national and international masterclasses.
