He is a tuba
player and coach born in Oldham, England, who took his musical studies at the Chetham School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
In 2004 he was
a finalist in BBC’s Young Musician of the Year.
After venturing
out into his career as a professional musician he first work on a freelance
basis which found him working with many orchestras and ensembles such as
the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Brass and the London Symphony
Orchestra.
At the same
time he was in trials with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra.
He became a
member of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London in 2008 where he currently works as
Principal Tuba. He is also co-founder
of the Alberti Brass Quintet and the Philharmonia Brass, with whom he performed at Worcester’s Three Choirs Festival.
Recently he
appeared in Leicester with the Bardi
Symphony Orchestra and the Ladies of the Leicestershire Chorale where he
was the soloist in a performance of “ Tuba Concerto
in F Minor” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The composer
Timothy Bowers wrote his Sonata for Tuba and Piano in 2006 for Peter, which
he premiered with Jennifer Miles that same year.
Recordings he
appears on include Tangent by
Trish Clowes.
In the field
of musical education he is a tuba coach for members of the National Youth
Orchestra of Great Britain.
