    Subotnick, Linn

Session violist equally adept at the avant-garde music of John Cage as providing string support on the albums of Earth, Wind & Fire.  Linn graduated from the University of California-Los Angeles with a degree in Psychology and matriculated from the Music Academy of the West and went on to a successful career as a studio musician.  On 23rd April 1964, Linn helped premiere Richard Swift’s “Bucolics” at the First University of California-Davis Faculty Research Concert.  Between 1974 and 1979, Linn was one of the violists in the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra.  Some of the artists with whom Linn has recorded include Michael Bolton, The Carpenters, Harry Connick, Jr., Randy Crawford, Neil Diamond, Sheena Easton, Billy Joel, Rickie Lee Jones, Kenny G, Barry Manilow, Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer, Luther Vandross, and Dionne Warwick.  Linn also made time to perform on a couple of movie soundtracks, The Enforcer and The Color Purple.  In July 2004, Linn was made a lifetime member of Local 47, one of the big musicians’ unions in Los Angeles.
