    Sugar, Gergely

    He is a horn player and teacher born in Budapest, Hungary, who studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria.  He then took further studies in Austria at Graz’s University of Music and went on to study conducting in both Austria and Russia.

     

    In his professional career he has been a member of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and very involved in their recordings he is a Co-Director of the Wiener Symphoniker label and the Managing Director of Symphonia-Recording Corporation of the VSO.

     

    Working with the Malaysian Philharmonic, he was a co-founder of the acclaimed Chamber Performance Series and has performed as the conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Chamber Players.

     

    Other orchestras he has performed with during his career include the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Concertus Musicus Wien and the Pro Arte Judaica Ensemble.

     

    No stranger to the studio, he has appeared on recordings that include Barockensemble der Wiener Symphoniker where he was the soloist on Horn Concerto in E-Flat Major by Christoph Forster, Mahler No. 1, Mahler No. 6 and Late Romantic Impressions by Sigfrid Karg-Elert.

     

    In the field of musical education he has taught national and international students the French and Viennese horn and has held the position of Professor at the Vienna Conservatory where he tutored students in French horn and conducting and Professor of Horn at the Kunst University Graz in Austria.  He has also held masterclasses with the Malaysian Philharmonic.
