Leonard
Swanson is a tuba player who attended Grosse Pointe South High School and
the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he performed in the
University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra. On 7th April 1978, they
had the honour of performing with soprano Jessye Norman at Hill Auditorium in a program that
featured vocal works by Mozart.
He is reputed
to have performed with the Chicago Symphony, the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and The Philadelphia
Orchestra. In 1997, he appeared
on the Edmonton Wind Ensemble’s album, Snake Fence Country.
Not confined
to classical, in April/May 2004, he participated in P.J. Perry’s live
recreation of the Miles Davis album, Birth
of the Cool. He has also
been known to be the token tuba player in the self-explanatory Trombonanza!.
