     Taylor, Alex (28th February 1947-12th March 1993)

He was a singer-songwriter born in Boston, Massachusetts, who came from a family where his father was a doctor, his mother a soprano singer and his siblings, Kate, James, Livingston and Hugh all sang too with James Taylor being the most successful.  The family moved to Carolina when his father had gained a position at the University of North Carolina.  When he was 17 he and James formed a band but this didn't last and James went to New York.  In his professional music career he performed as a solo artist, releasing 5 albums, and worked with many musicians and singers including Scott Bayer, Jimmy Buffett, Ginger Holladay, Floyd Miles and Carly Simon.  Albums he appeared on include his own With Friends and Neighbors, Dinnertime and Dancing With the Devil and also Volcano by Jimmy Buffett, Coming Around Again by Carly Simon, One Man Dog by James Taylor, It's In There by Kate Taylor and the soundtrack of Coast to Coast.  James Taylor wrote his 1970 hit song "Sweet Baby James" after having been inspired by Alex's son, his nephew, who had also been named James.  On the day of his brother James' 45th birthday in Mach 1993 he died in Sanford, Florida, from a heart attack.  He was 46 years old.
