She is a singer-songwriter and producer born Sarah
Maria Taylor in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, who grew up in Manhattan
with a family where her father is the singer James Taylor, her mother is
the singer Carly Simon and her brother, Ben, is also a singer-songwriter
and actor.While in high
school she began songwriting and was a co-founder of the band The Slip
with other classmates before studying at Brown University to gain her Medical
Anthropology degree.She chose to pursue music has her
main career from around 1998 but had sung with many bands before going solo.She has been singing and touring with
her band since the late 1990s and in the 2000s she went on the road with
her father for a time and also with her mother on her Serenade Tour in 2005.Working with several other artists
during her career she has featured with Jimmy Buffett, Donald Fagen and Art
Garfunkel among others.She
has appeared on several albums including her own Tomboy Bride, Apt. #6S
and Shotgun as well as Coming Around Again, Hello Big Man and
Letter Never Sent by Carly Simon, Another Run Round the Sun
by Ben Taylor, October Road by James Taylor and the benefit album Too
Many Years to name a few.In
the movies her songs have been used for the soundtracks for Anywhere But
Here, Just Add Pepper and Me, Myself & Irene. The song "Sarah Maria" which appeared
on James Taylor's album Gorilla in 1975 was written about her.She and her husband, Dean, have now
established The Tranquility Project for the victims of land mines and she
runs her own business selling health food called "Sally In the Raw".Her son, Bodhi, was born in October
2007.In 2008 she was
continuing to appear in concert, sometimes with her brother Ben.
