He is a violinist and teacher who studied for his
degree in music performance at Indiana University and took his chamber music
studies with musicians such as William Primrose and members that were with
the Berkshire, Hungarian and Julliard Quartets.He joined
the Blair School of Music in 1972 and became a member of the Blair String
Quartet, where he holds the position of first violin. During his time with them has
performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Washington Library of
Congress and the Weill Recital Hall as well as in the NPR series Recital
Hall.He has also attended
many music festivals held throughout the United States.As a soloist he has appeared with
the Colorado Philharmonic, the International Madeira Bach festival
Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony.His name is known in many genres of
music where he has appeared and recorded with many artists such as Alabama,
Buzz Cason, David Davidson, Bela Fleck, Larry Gatlin, Nanci Griffith, Al Hirt,
Edgar Meyer, Tommy Roe, Selah, Ricky Van Shelton, Pamela Sixfin and Don Williams
to name a few.His recordings
are many and a few of them include From Mozart to Ravel by The Blair
String Quartet, Chase by Garth Brooks, Beach House on the Moon
by Jimmy Buffett, Feels Like Home by Sara Evans and the compilations
Christmas in New England and Come Together: America Salutes the
Beatles. He has recently held a concert series where he performs Johann
Sebastian Bach's complete Partitas and Sonatas for Solo Violin.He is currently the Joseph Joachim
Professor of Violin at the Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University.
