He is a English guitarist who went to school with Mick
Underwood of Gillan. He
performed with Ritchie Blackmore and David Sutch in Screaming Lord Sutch
and the Savages from May to October 1962. He became a member of the group Cliff Bennett and the
Rebel Rousers in December 1962 when he took over from Bernie Watson. They saw hits with "One Way Love"
and their No. 6 version of "Got to Get You Into My Life" that had
previously appeared on The Beatles Revolver and was produced for
them by Paul McCartney. He
continued with them for several years, including working under songwriters
such as Mark London and Roy Wood and appearing on the TV show Beatles,
Die, but the band dissolved in 1969 and became Toe Fat. Roy Young had been a co-member of
the Rebel Rousers and in 1970 he became a member of The Roy Young Band and
stayed with them until 1972, appearing on their albums and also backing
Chuck Berry in his live recording of the No. 1 hit "My Ding-a-Ling". In 1978 he appeared on the
It's Rock + Roll Vol. 2
, which was recorded as part of the BBC Radio One show It's
Rock 'n' Roll. In 1992 he
appeared on The Searcher's 30th Anniversariy Collection and in the 2000s he has been part of
the trio, Rockability, with Bob Allen and David Schaffner.
