    Williams, Sharon

    Educator, flautist and piccolo player with the London Symphony Orchestra who appears on their recordings, Beethoven:  Symphony No. 9 ‘Choral’, Brahms:  Serenade No. 2 in A Major, Op. 16/Symphony No. 3 in F Major, Op. 90, Holst:  The Planets, John Adams:  A Flowering Tree, and Shostakovich:  Symphony No. 8.  She can also be heard on Life Model by The Blue Aeroplanes and the soundtrack from Rise of the Guardians.


    On 4th November 2004, the LSO offered up an all-Russian program that included the overture from Ruslan and Ludmilla by Mikhail Glinka, “Symphony No. 8, Op. 65” by Dmitri Shostakovich, and “Violin Concerto No. 2” by Sergei Prokofiev, with soloist Nikolaj Znaider.


    They gave the world premiere of James MacMillan’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Vadim Repin at the Barbican on 12th May 2010.


    On 16th December 2011, they appeared at Birmingham Symphony Hall where they performed “Symphony No. 1” and “Symphony No. 9” (“Choral”) by Ludwig van Beethoven, the latter with the Monteverdi Choir.


    They presented “Music for the Big Screen:  The Best of John Williams” at Barbican Hall on 8th November 2012.  The evening’s music comprised highlights from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Empire of the Sun, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Hook, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler’s List, The Terminal, and War of the Worlds.


    In the field of music education, Sharon has served on the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
