He is a popular music and stage singer of Armenian
descent nicknamed "Frenchy" whose father worked with the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra as an Assistant Conductor.
Starting singing while he was young he appeared in the premiere
performance of The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi by Gian-Carlo Menotti
in May 1963. After being
recommended by Menotti himself, he then took his first steps into his
professional career later that year when he played Amahl in a production of
Amahl and the Night Visitors that was broadcast by NBC in its Hallmark
Hall of Fame on 25th December 1963. This would lead to many other roles
on stage and film that have included Hair and Jesus Christ
Superstar where he played the character Annas, the high priest, on
Broadway and on film. In the
world of popular music he has sang and recorded with artists such as Patty
Austin, Tony Bennett, David Byrne & Talking Heads, Ray Charles, Dion,
Patti Labelle, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Carly Simon and Ronny Spector. From the first part of the 1990s
until 2001 he was a member of the band Little Isadore & The
Conquistadors and he then moved on to be with the band The Planotones. On
TV he has featured on commercials for Dominos Pizza, Budweiser, Sprite,
Ford and Coca Cola to name a few.
Albums he has appeared on include Milk and Honey by John
Lennon & Yoko Ono, It's Alright (I See Rainbows) by Yoko Ono, Some
People by Belouis Some and the soundtracks for The Bearenstain Bears
Save Christmas, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Duel, Grail: The Rock
Musical of the Future and Amahl and the Night Visitors.
