    Zahler, Clara

    Violinist who has worked with the New York Pops, the Philharmonia CETA Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Philharmonic.

     

    In September 1978, the Philharmonia CETA Orchestra appeared in a pair of concerts at the Museum of Modern Art’s Summergarden.  The first of these occurred on the 1st of September and included Charles Gounod’s “Le Petit Symphonie”, Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony No. 30”, Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 5”, and Igor Stravinsky’s “Suite”.  On 2nd September, they performed Antonin Dvorak’s “Serenade for Winds”, Paul Hindemith’s “Spielmusik”, Charles Ives’ “Unanswered Question”, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Serenade”.

     

    Clara assisted in a pair of recitals at Connecticut College’s Dana Hall in November 1985.  On 10th November, bassoonist Cynde Iverson was the featured soloist.  Her program comprised “Concerto in C major” by Antonio Vivaldi, “Quartet for Bassoon and Strings” by Francois Devienne, the east coast premiere of “Serenade for Bassoon and String Quartet” by Mark Carlson, and “Sonata in E minor” by Benedetto Marcello.  Keyboardist Gary Chapman and string musician Peter Sacco were in the spotlight on 17th November in a performance of Ernest Chausson’s “Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet”.

     

    Recordings on which Clara appears include Arel/Semegen:  Music for String Quartet and Tape/Capriccio for T.V./Jeux de Quatres/Music for Solo Violin and Prokofiev:  Peter and the Wolf/Peter Schickele:  A Zoo Called Earth/Gail Kubik:  Gerald McBoing Boing.

     

    In the field of music education, she has taught at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Minnesota, and served as Campus Arts Liaison at Long Island University’s Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.
