     Zoernig, Lawrence (1960-Present)

    He is a cellist, composer and teacher born into a musical family in Sioux City, Iowa, who began playing the cello when he was eight years old.  He took further musical studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Juilliard School.  He has won several competitions such as the Joseph Fischoff Competition and the Artists International Competition.  He has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist and as a member of orchestras and ensembles such as Bachanalia, the trio Blades, Bars and Bows, the Con Brio Ensemble, the Cosmopolitan Chamber Players, The Glass Farm Ensemble, The Goliard Ensemble, the Mosaic Ensemble, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and the Saint Alban’s Piano Quartet.  He has been principal cellist of the New York Chamber Orchestra, the New York Symphony, Opera Manhattan and also New York Scandia Symphony, with whom he premiered “Concertino for Cello String Orchestra” by Lars-Erik Larsson.  Some of the venues he has performed at include the Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Carter Center, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and various locations in countries such as Brazil, France and Spain as well as on several cruise ships.  In 1994 he performed in a duo with his brother, the guitarist and singer Peter Zoernig, at various clubs, bars and restaurants in New York.  Another brother, Kevin, is a keyboardist and they all performed together on Peter’s album The Wave of Equilibrium.  His work as a composer has seen him receiving a grant fir his cello works by the Composer Foundation.  In the field of musical education he is a faculty member of New Jersey’s Sylvan Academy of Music.
