     Cannon, Buddy

He is a country music producer, songwriter and background vocalist born in Lexington, Tennessee who started in the industry during the 1970s and whose daughter is the singer Melonie Cannon.

Working in collaboration with Gene Dunlap he wrote “This Moment in Time” which Engelbert Humperdinck recorded in 1979 and with Raleigh Squires he wrote the chart song “Blue and Broken Hearted Me” in the early 1980s. He went on to have many further songs recorded by artists such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Vern Gosdin, Mel Tillis.  He saw success with George Strait’s 2006 hit song “Give It Away” which was co-written with Jamey Johnson and Bill Anderson and won the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year.

Highly acclaimed as a producer he has worked on albums by artists such as Sara Evans, George Jones, Reba McEntire and John Michael Montgomery and is recognised for his extensive work with Kenny Chesney, which led him to being awarded the Country Music Association’s Producer of the Year in 2006.  He is so well thought of as a record producer that the United States House of Representatives honoured him for his contribution.

He is a respected recording industry executive known for his work with up and coming artists who are trying to shape their own careers and was instrumental in launching the successful recording careers of stars that include Billy Ray Cyrus, Sammy Kershaw and Shania Twain.

The many albums his work has appeared on, whether as a producer, songwriter, background vocalist or all three, include Melonie Cannon by Melonie Cannon, I Will Stand by Kenny Chesney, No Place That Far by Sara Evans, Classic Gil Guilbeau 1968-1986 by Gil Guilbeau, Haunted Heart by Sammy Kershaw, My Very Special Guests by George Jones, My Kind of Country by Reba McEntire, Brand New Me by John Michael Montgomery, Gravedigger by Willie Nelson, Donny and Marie by Donny and Marie Osmond, Singing Ranger, Vol. 4 by Hank Snow, Strait From the Heart by George Strait, Greatest Hits by Mel Tillis and Bocephus Box by Hank Williams Jr..
