He was born in Dickson, Tennessee
and made Nashville his
home. He was in the Class of '24
at Vanderbilt University. While he was the University he
formed his own band and wrote the University's official fight song
"Dynamite". He was
known for such hits as "Near You", "Tennessee
Tango" and "Beg Your Pardon". He was a piano maestro and played
for 25 years at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville. He had his own orchestra which was
the first one to play on WSM and later he was musical director there.
