He is a singer-songwriter who was born in Douglas,
Isle
of Man, Great
Britain. His family moved to Manchester
while he was still young and then in 1958 they emigrated
to Australia. Along with his brothers, Robin
and Maurice, he started singing and songwriting from a young age and they
became the Bee Gees in 1958. He broke Lennon &
McCartney's record by being the only songwriter to have 4 straight
No.1s in 1978. His songs have been
recorded by well over 2,500 other artists and he has written and produced
albums for artists including Andy Gibb (his brother), Barbra Streisand,
Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick. He received an Honorary Degree of
Doctor of Music from the University
of Manchester in 2004 and was
awarded a CBE by Prince Charles at Buckingham
Palace, in 2005. In January
2006 he bought the former home of Johhny and June Cash in Tennessee. His son, Steve, is currently a
guitarist for Crowbar.
