He is a composer, conductor, teacher and adjudicator
born in Yorkshire, England who emigrated to Australia with his family in
1964. He began to develop his
musical interests in his school years and became a performer with The
Salvation Army band.
He also became a composer and is now internationally
acclaimed for his works for both symphonic and brass bands such as
“Fanfare and Processional”, “Mountain Ridge”,
“The New Anzacs”, “Pathfinders” and “Sunset
Serenade” and arrangements of traditional folk songs such as
“The Ash Grove”.
In recognition of his contribution to music, the
Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association named him Composer of
the Year in 1986 and 1989 and he has also won awards for his works written
for school bands.
Alongside his work as a composer he is also a
conductor and has worked with several ensembles throughout his career.
Currently he holds the position of Musical Director of
the Croydon Wind Symphony that was established by his trumpet teacher from
high school.
As a teacher he is on the faculty of the Yarra Valley
Anglican School as Head of Brass Studies and in the field of competition he
acts as an adjudicator at Australian musical festivals and other
competitive events.
