     Pettman, Edgar (19th April 1866-1943)

He was a composer and arranger born in Dunkirk, Kent, England, who studied organ at the Royal Academy of Music from 1881.  He wrote and arranged many hymns such as "I Saw a Maiden", "The Infant King" and "The Angel Gabriel" which is also known as "Gabriel's Message".  His own compositions, often with organ accompaniment, include Four Evening Hymn Tunes, The Strain Upraise of Joy and Praise,  " Benedicite, Omni Opera in E Flat" and "Te Deum Laudamus".
