He was born in Mayfield,
Kentucky and attended Vanderbilt
University in Nashville. He was a songwriter mainly of
country music. In 1974 he
wrote for Charley Pride's Pi-Gem records, and in 1981 he formed his
own company. He wrote and
co-wrote for many artists including John Anderson, Randy Travis, Waylon
Jennings and George Strait. He won a Grammy nomination for The
Judd's "Love Is Alive" in 1985. He died in an automobile accident on
27th December
1997
in Clanton, Alabama.
