This ensemble is an early-music group founded by the
conductor, Richard Hickox, and the violinist, Simon Standage, in 1990. It is currently led by the solo
violinist Simon Standage who gained renown for his recordings of Telemann.
It has appeared in many music festivals as well as on radio
broadcasts and has released many successful recordings including Handel at the Opera, Handel and the
Oratorio for Concerts, Music from the Court of Frederick the Great and Albinoni: Oboe Concertos. The ensemble's recording of Dido and Aeneas was used for the TV
production of the opera which was shown as part of the BBC's
commemoration of Purcell.
