Harvey Brooks, Kal David and Marty Grebb put this
R&B group together in 1971 in San Francisco, California. Harvey had been a bassist with
Electric Flag, Kal was previously a vocalist and guitarist with Illinois Speed
Express and Marty had been a keyboardist with Lovecraft an
The Buckinghams.
After deciding to relocate to Woodstock, New York,
they gave performances with artists such as Paul Butterfield, The Band and
Bob Dylan. They were taken on
by the Just Sunshine label and the next three years saw them releasing the
critically well-receive albums The Fabulous Rhinestones,
Freewheelin’ and The Rhinestones.
Their live performances gained them notice, especially
when they were appeared with John Lennon and Yoko Ono at their New York
peace rally in 1971 and at concerts which featured big names that included
The Allman Brothers, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles and Stevie
Wonder.
In 1974 they decided to go their own ways and each
member went on to pursue their own careers. The group hasn’t been
forgotten though and a compilation CD of their work was released in Japan
in the 2000s.
