    I Musici

This conductor-less chamber ensemble of 12 Italian musicians, who were mainly graduates of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, was formed in 1952 in Rome, Italy to explore music of Italian composers that was never played.  They debuted at the Accademia in March 1952 and in April they were heard rehearsing by Arturo Toscanini who said "bravi, bravissimi".no! la musica non muore", literally translated as "good, best: no! music does not die".  They became recognized very quickly and soon became known as international performers.  Their name was changed to I Musici di Roma at the suggestion of their manager as he said it would immediately identify their roots.  They use both of their names depending in which country in the world they are performing but essentially they are I Musici in the countries outside Europe and have the "di Roma" added for European audiences.
