This orchestra was founded in
1933 and had formerly been the RTL Symphony which was a privately run radio
orchestra which was eventually taken over by the state. It comprises 93 musicians and it has
received international acclaim through its
concerts and radio and television performances. Their conductors, musical directors and
guest conductors have included Bramwell Tovey,
Emmanuel Krivine, Paavo Jarvi, Krysztof Penderecki, Hans Graf and Pierre Cao. The orchestra
appear in exchange concerts and international music festivals and
have performed many acclaimed European venues. Releasing two or three CDs per year,
they have made several world premiere recordings, have introduced new works
to their listeners and have received awards that including two Cannes Classical
Awards. Their first tour of the
United States
took place in October 2004.
