This
band was formed by the singer/guitarist Steve Miller in 1967/8 after the
Goldberg-Miller Blues Band disbanded.
Their first album was Children of the Future, which was the
forerunner of four albums based on the currently fashionable psychedelic
blues scene of the late 1960s/early 1970s. These albums did not achieve a hit on the singles chart
but did enter into the album charts and their Anthology featured
Paul McCartney, who was still a member of The Beatles, singing backing
vocals on "My Dark Hour". In 1973 the songs became more popular and
the group began to see success, peaking with the albums Fly Like an Eagle
and Book of Dreams in 1976 and 1977. They achieved many hit singles and toured
extensively, including a tour in 1977 with the Eagles. Their main team involved in the
majority of their hit songs of the 1970s and into the '80s were Steve
Miller, Gary Mallaber with either Lonny Turner or Gerald Johnson. The commercial success faded in the
early 1980s with their last big hit being "Abracadabra" and since
that time the band have toured and released several live albums and
collections.
