Also known as
the Orquesta Sinfonica
de Radio Television Espanola or Spanish Radio and Television Symphony
Orchestra, this orchestra is the resident orchestra used for television and
radio broadcasting in Spain.
It was launched
in Madrid under the directorship of the Ukrainian music
director Igor Markevitch on 27th
May 1965 at the Teatro de Zarzuela.
The orchestra has
been led by several music directors since that time and some of these
include Enrique Garcia Asensio who led them from
1964 to 1984 followed by 1998 to 2001, Odon Alonso from 1968 to 1984,
Adrian Leaper from 2001 to 2010 and Carlos Kalmar
who joined them in September 2011.

several recordings they can be heard on Alfredo

Film Music Festival of Madrid
Symphonic Concert.
They and the
RTVE Chorus were featured by BBC Radio 3 on Sunday 28th
March 2010 in
their celebration of Holy Week when they performed a 2-hour concert of
Frank Martin’s oratorio Golgotha in Madrid.
The RTVE
Chorus often works in collaboration with them on performances and they can
be heard today from their home at Madrid’s Teatro
Monumental.
