    Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra  

    This orchestra was established in 1945 by the conductor, Karl Munchinger.  It debuted as the first German Orchestra after WWII in Paris in 1949 and saw great success.  They have since performed all around the world at concerts and festivals and have made a name for their Johann Sebastian Bach interpretations which have won them a Grand Prix de Disque.  Karl Munchinger retirement heralded performances by many guest conductors that include Trevor Pinnock and Vaclav Neumann and the soloists Frank Peter Zimmerman, Jan Gabarek and Janos Starkre among many others.  Currently the concertmaster is Benjamin Hudson, the director is Dennis Russell Davies and the conductor, Michael Hofstetter.  The numerous recordings including works by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Giya Kancheli, Schnittke and Shostakovich and in the movies they have appeared on the soundtracks for the films Enigma and Dead Poet's Society.
