The orchestra was founded in
London by the conductor and
arranger, John Wilson, in 1996.
The 17 members are a combination of session and jazz musicians and further
strings are added to recreate the music's original arrangements by
composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Its repertoire covers over 15,000
pieces and it has performed in venues that include Queen Elizabeth Hall and
The Royal Festival Hall. Having
released 4 successful CDs it is the accompanying orchestra on the
soundtrack for the Kevin Spacey biographical film of the life of the singer
Bobby Darin, Beyond the Sea. It has also appeared on several of
Sir Paul McCartney's compositions.
