Bob Marley wrote this song in 1979 while sitting on an
aeroplane with The Wailers and trying out different things with the
guitar.This popular result of
their experimentation was recorded with a verse being recited in the
background from Bob Marley's "Judge Not" and released as a single in 1980
with the flipside being "One Drop".It appeared on the 1980 Bob Marley & The Wailers' final album Uprising
but would later appear on the compilation Legend. It reached No. 5 in the UK charts,
No. 6 on the Club Play Singles Chart and No. 56 on the Black Singles
Charts.After Bob Marley's
death in 1981 it saw a further release in 1984 with it re-entering the UK
charts and reaching No. 71.In
the movies it can be heard on the soundtracks of Catch a Fire and 50 First
Dates and on Blue Crush the song was performed by Bob Marley's sons, Damien
and Stephen.
