This work, written in 1906, is one of the 12 pieces that
make up the four books of the suite Iberia. It appears as the third entry in
Book 1 and depicts a Corpus
Christi
procession through the streets of Seville.Throughout the piece the music
builds up with a "fiery emotion"but finishes with the sound
of bells which gives the impression of the religious side following the
great celebration.It was
famously transcribed by Leopold Stokowski and that transcription has since
been recorded by other conductors and orchestras, including Erich Kunzel
and the Cincinnati Pops.The
name "El Corpus en Sevilla" (Corpus
Christi in Seville)
has also been used for this piece.
