    Held up without a Gun

    (Bruce Springsteen)

Flip side to “Hungry Heart” depicts three scenarios in which one can get robbed sans use of the titular weapon.  It may have been partially inspired by Bruce’s legal difficulties with his former producer, Mike Appel.  The only CD on which it appears is The Essential Bruce Springsteen, and this is a live version recorded during The River tour.  It purportedly took eight takes to get it right, and these were recorded on a boom box.  The song moves at breakneck speed and pretty much has to:  It clocks in at a whopping 1:15.
