This piece for string orchestra was written in 1938,
and commissioned by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Its immediate popularity spawned
the follow-up "Jazz Legato" and after they had both been performed to great
success, Leroy Anderson became a permanent member of the Boston Pops as an
orchestrator and arranger.Strings
in pizzicato style using a jazz rhythmic base perform the music of this
first original published composition by Leroy Anderson and it was arranged
for a full orchestra in 1948.
