The
song was written in 1971 and first featured on Stevie Wonder's album Where I'm Coming From. It's a ballad that describes a
failed relationship using a changing season metaphor. It was released initially as the
B-Side of Stevie Wonder's "We Can Work It Out" which went to No.
78 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It has been remade by Three Dog Night and Joan Baez includes it on
her 1975Diamonds and Rust album.
