(John Woolrich)
This concerto
for oboe was written by the English composer John Woolrich
after it had been commissioned for the oboist Nicholas Daniel by the BBC.
It was given its
world premiere at the BBC Promenade Concert in 1996 by Nicholas Daniel and
the performance brought him and the piece much critical acclaim.
The work has
featured on the CD John Woolrich: Ghost in the Machine where it is
performed by Nicholas Daniel and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conducted
by Martyn Brabbins.
It was heard
on BBC Radio 3’s series Hear
and Now in September 2005 in their broadcast entitled Portrait of John Woolrich.
