This song,
written by the French composer Michel Legrand, features on the soundtrack
of the 1967 musical Les Demoiselles
de Rochefort translated as The Young Girls of Rochefort.
This film musical,
directed by Jacques Demy, is about the twin sisters Solange
and Delphine who live in Rochefort
where they teach music and dance in their own school and each becomes
romantically entwined with people who come to the small seaside town.
The soundtrack
of the production, which stars Gene Kelly and the sisters Catherine Deneuve and Francoise Dorleac,
who died in an accident shortly after filming was finished, features
performances by Donald Burke, Ann Germain and
Claudine Meunier respectively who dubbed for the
stars in the film.
Jackie Ward
and Sue Allen performed the English version of “A Pair of
Twins”, translated from “Chanson des Jumelles”
on disc two of the soundtrack.
It had been adapted by Julian More and Earl Brown.
