This comic take on “Cinderella” is rife with spoonerisms, and like any joke, it has survived many different tellings. The oldest of these seems to date from the 1930s, as performed by F. Chase Taylor (a.k.a. Colonel Stoopnagle) on the radio program, Stoopnagle and Budd.

It resurfaced in 1962 when Jack Ross recorded a version that charted in the U.S. In 1965, Archie Campbell released his own version, which later turned up on the album Have a Laugh on Me and the TV show Hee-Haw.

The routine has been performed in various incarnations by Ronnie Barker, Ron Barracks, Alan Harris, Matt Jury, Paul Martinelli, Ronnie Prophet, Cy Scarborough, Brian Stapley, and Freddie Starr.
