Serenade for String Orchestra No. 1

    (George Antheil)

Composed in 1948, the Serenade owes much to the first movement of Antheil's Fifth Symphony,s well as "The Battle Cry of Freedom".  Like much of the composer's output, it owes little besides structure to earlier examples of the form.
